What is TET?
National Council for Teachers Education has laid down the
norms for determining the eligibility of any individuals who wishes to be a
teacher. These norms were laid in lieu of Rte Act 2009. Article 21 A of Indian
constitution speaks about the Right of children to free and compulsory
education. In order to ensure execution of the same Sarva Skiksha Abhiyaan was
launched. Ministry of Human Resources of Government of India appointed national
Council for Teachers education as an authorized body for laying down the
academic eligibility criteria for teachers. Teachers’ eligibility test was
introduced in order to qualify an individual before he or she applies for a
position of a teacher.
Introduction to UPTET:
UPTET is the abbreviated form of Uttar Pradesh teachers eligibility test. Uttar Pradesh Teachers eligibility test is mandatory
for individuals who want to join as teachers or educational instructors in any
Uttar Pradesh government run school or in privately managed and privately
operated schools in Uttar Pradesh. UP
government has empowered Uttar Pradesh basic education board to conduct UPTET
exam 2013-2014. Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board conducts UPTET annually.
Thousands of prospective teachers appear for UPTET on annual basis.
Structure of UPTET
UPTET is conducted for two different levels namely the
primary level and the upper primary level. Primary level consists of classes
one to classes five, whereas upper primary level consists of class six to class
eight. Anybody who is academically qualified for teaching and who wants to be
an instructor for primary level needs to clear the TET. Similarly, anybody who
wants to be an instructor or educational facilitator for upper primary level
needs to clear the teacher eligibility test for the state in which he or she
wants to teach.
Eligibility for UPTET
Primary teachers: aspirants for primary teachers in Uttar
Pradesh should have cleared their graduation examination with an aggregate
score of 50% or move. They should also have a two year diploma in special
education (D.Ed). Candidates who also possess a four year diploma in elementary
education will also be considered eligible for appearing for a TET.
Upper primary Teachers:
aspirants for upper primary teachers in Uttar Pradesh should have
cleared their graduation examinations with an aggregate score of 50% or move.
They should also hold a one year degree in elementary education (B.El.Ed). Candidates
who are currently pursuing their bachelors in special education or elementary
education can also apply for the TET.
Candidates aspiring to be language teachers need to be M.A
in the respective subject. Primary school language teacher candidates must
possess D.Ed and upper primary school language teacher applicants should possess
B.El.Ed.
TET in Uttar Pradesh consist of different categories like
UP-TET 1: this test is conducted for applicants who want to
become teachers in primary school.
Language teacher eligibility test for primary schools: this
test is for individuals who wish to be language instructors in primary schools.
UP-TET 2: this test is conducted for applicants who want to
become teachers in upper primary school.
Language teacher eligibility test for upper primary schools:
this test is for individuals who wish to be language instructors in upper primary
schools.
